Investing In Yourself

As mothers, we naturally focus our time and energy on our children; making sure their needs are met. What happens when we do this is our needs get put on the back burner.

We end up getting around to them “when we have time.” When we do this, we get worn down. Our batteries don’t get recharged and everyday tasks become that much harder.

However, it’s no fault of our own (in my opinion), I’m sticking with, we are just “programed” this way. No scientific research or facts to back that up just an observation. With social media being as influential as it is, there seems to be even more demands on mothers/women, to do more.

Unfortunately, for mother/women to do more than they already do, this implies they have to give up the time they would spend on themselves, and give it to someone or something else.

Thus, leading to where mother’s struggle in today’s world. We give, and we give, and we give but don’t ever feel like we are worthy of giving to ourself. Because that is looked down upon and called “selfish.”

So why? Why do we put ourselves second or last? Let’s name the popular “reasons”
-mom guilt
-not enough time
-too many responsibilities
-the ship will sink if you leave it for a moment
-don’t know how to help ourself
-self-care? What’s that???? (Some people have no knowledge of what self-care is….& that’s ok, let’s model it!)

When we value these common excuses over the undying need take care of ourself, there is a ripple effect that happens, which isn’t pretty.
Mom fatigue, irritability, anxiety, stress, depression, health issues, marital problems, self-esteem issues, self-worth goes out the door…..you see where this is going.

Here’s where we must realize. THE THINGS WE DON’T DO HAVE A GREATER EFFECT THAN THE THINGS WE DO, DO.

When we don’t take a shower-we feel icky
When we don’t exercise-we don’t have energy to keep up with our children
When we don’t get quiet time-our brains become overstimulated
When we don’t ask for help-we feel like we’re drowning
When we don’t fuel our body with nutritions food-we get sluggish

When we don’t take care of ourself-it is extremely hard to take care of anyone else!

The biggest tip I have for those who are having a difficult time getting their self care in……SCHEDULE IT!

Just like you would your child’s soccer game, or a parent teacher conference. Block out that time on your schedule to give to yourself. Another perk is scheduling elevates the question of who is watching the kid(s) while you’re gone. Everything will be set in place which will make it easier for you to follow through the your self-care.

YOU ARE WORTH SELF-CARE!

If you’re feeling the burnout often, that’s your sign to start taking care of yourself ❤️

Invest in yourself. Everything else will align when you start with yourself.
