Easy Pizza Dough

Ok, so here’s the deal….we are a family of 7, yes, you read that right…7. I have five kids plus a husband. My children and husband eat like there’s no tomorrow. We’ve had an ongoing tradition of Friday night pizza, since we started dating. Well as our brood grew, so did the amount of pizza we were purchasing. Ergo, we were slightly going into debt from buying pizza every Friday night. We were spending at least 40 a week….JUST ON PIZZA! yes, lets add that up–$40/week=$160/month=$2080/YEAR!

That’s just a bit extreme if you ask me. So I found a recipe to make our own dough and tried it out. It was ok for the most part but you know me, I always have to adapt recipes to get it just the way I (&my family) like it. 🙂

So, after a few tweaks and modifications, I perfected my pizza dough recipe and now we’re saving a boat load of money each week!!!! We can buy all of the ingredients we need for the months and still come in under what it would cost for us to buy pizza just 1 Friday night. AMAZING right??!!

Here’s the only kicker…This recipe to make your own pizza dough requires at least an hour for the dough to rise. HOWEVER!!! once you make the dough, YOU CAN FREEZE IT!!! So if you prep a couple of batched then throw them in the freezer, you don’t have to worry about “rise time.” Ok, let’s just jump to it!



  1. In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and brown sugar in the water. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Stir the salt and oil into the yeast solution after 10 minutes.
  3. Next, you’re going to want to grab your kitchen aid mixer and the dough hook attachment. Add the yeast solution and 3 1/2 cups of flour & 2 TBSP Italian Seasoning into the mixer. Mix until the dough is just combined and not sticky. If the dough is still sticky add more flour, slowly in small increments.
  4. Once combined, turn the dough out onto a clean, well floured surface and knead the dough just slightly to make sure all flour is combined and it is not sticky anymore. Then, place the dough into a well oiled bowl (cue the olive oil) and cover it with a cloth. Let the dough rise until doubled in size; this should take about 1 hour.
  5. After 1 hr, punch the dough and form into a tight ball. Allow the dough to relax for a moment before rolling out.
  6. Pre-cook the dough before adding any sauce or toppings (unless you are using a pizza stone! then you can bake it all at the same time).
  7. Allow your dough to rise for about 15 mins in the pan before pre-cooking it. Then place in a preheated oven (425 degrees F/220 degrees C) for 5-10 mins just to make sure the dough gets fully cooked during the next step.
  8. After your dough is pre-cooked, take out, add your sauce and all the toppings you like then put back into the oven. Let the pizza back for about 15-20 minutes. You’re looking for melted cheese and golden crust.
  9. Once done, pull the pizza out and set it sit for a few moments. Then slice up and ENJOY!!
